About This Course

Vocabulary plays a critical role in life and overall success. Children's vocabulary knowledge helps them to communicate, read and make sense of the world around them. Vocabulary development in early childhood is a remarkable achievement that is highly predictive of reading proficiency and later academic achievement. In this online training, participants will learn the importance of vocabulary instruction in early childhood classrooms, specific words to target for instruction and effective strategies for enhancing vocabulary development.

Learning Objectives

By the end of this course:

  1. Participants will gain an understanding of why vocabulary instruction is important.
  2. Participants will identify which words should be targeted for instruction in early childhood classrooms.
  3. Participants will examine the principles and strategies of effective, robust vocabulary instruction.
